Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin - Barry McAdam
'Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin' is Barry's limited edition print of the Magnificent Palm House as seen from the Curvilinear house in the Botanic Gardens Dublin.
Richard Turner's classic glasshouses have always been an inspiration. This view captures the sense that there are some wonderous plants behind those glass panels that grow right up to the rafters of the Palm House.
Painted in watercolour, this was a chance to take a masking technique to the limit. Usually reserved for waves and sunsets, every steel panel of the glasshouses were masked off meticulously before the main painting was completed.
At that point the mask was removed to reveal the delicate, strong structures. From then on in lines were delicately added so as not to take from the airy effect. This is the first piece Barry has completed where the linework is pencil not ink, to achieve this effect.
Printed to museum quality using Giclée printing process on archival quality paper.
