‘The Red Stables, Clontarf’ is an acrylic painting by Barry, depicting the beautiful Victorian stables commissioned for the St. Anne’s Estate by Arthur Guinness, Lord Ardilaun, in 1885. Designed by George Ashlin, an architect renowned for his work on religious buildings such as Cobh Cathedral, the stables now house Olive’s Café and a gallery space for local artists. In recent years, restoration work has been completed, including the retiling of the roof.
