If I Were a Blackbird - Sinéad Woods
Inspired by a photo Sinéad took looking through the foliage of a cardoon plant through to the Great Palm House in the Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin, Dublin. These majestic plants with their wonderful large purple blooms and silvery green leaves framed the delicate metalwork of the greenhouse perfectly. As cardoon seed heads mature and die away, they transform into fluffy, oversized spheres, providing ideal nesting material for blackbirds. In this illustration the blackbird gazes up at a perfectly formed seed head, envisioning it as the ultimate cushioning for its nest. The interplay of nature and wildlife unfolds, showcasing the delicate balance between beauty and functionality in the garden's ecosystem.
