Dublin Bay - Barry McAdam
“I liked the idea of doing a portrait of Dublin from Dublin Bay from the Aviva to Croke Park with lots in between. I chose a view that leads you in from the Poolbeg lighthouse and the North Bull Lighthouse into town and up the River Liffey.
With this watercolour technique there is an element of uncertainty which I like as paint falls, splashes and mixes on the page. Initially I had to come up with a composition that included a two mile long scene without making it seem too unreal. The Sky is an experiment in sunset and I think it has turned out well. The water incorporates the colours of the sea and the light from the sky. In this one I have included the name Dublin as it really seemed to set off the piece.”
