Dublin, Bell ringing to Ringsend - Barry McAdam
“It's up in the air for a unique view over Dublin. I have always enjoyed the artistic challenge of a city scape. Landmarks, streets and creating a piece where the eye can wander around and bring the viewer on a journey is something I love to create.
In this scene I created a journey from Christchurch Dublin all the way out to the sea and the Poolbeg Chimneys. I started with the main buildings and after several rearrangements in pencil, the piece appeared and the square format really suited the mood I was trying to capture.
It was then onto getting in the Liffey to connect the piece together bringing the view all the way to Croke Park on the Northside.
This set the scene for going as far as the Aviva on the Southside and getting all in between. I wanted to capture the vibrance of the early morning so I wanted as few greys as possible to be grey. Blue and purple hues bring the stonework together.
It was then onto capturing Dame Street and Trinity College as this for me begins the 18th century walk to Christchurch. Adding in the green of the trees really helped create a view that brought nature and the city together. Cars, busses and people brought human life to the scene in a way where I wanted to capture that early morning feel when one wonders what everyone else is doing up."
